We proudly share the experience of our recent study tour organized by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Pančevo, as part of the celebration of 170 years since the putting into operation of the first railway line in South Banat and 140 years in Serbia.
On the first day of the tour, we began with a ride along the Oravita – Anina railway line, which took us through the beautiful mountainous areas of Banat. This railway line, one of the oldest in Europe, once connected the stations of Jasenovo and Bela Crkva in Serbia. It offers a unique view of the natural beauty of this region and is an outstanding tourist attraction.
We visited the Steam Locomotive Museum in Resita, where we had the opportunity to admire some of the oldest locomotives, including the first locomotive produced in this small town. Resita, as the seat of Caras-Severin County, offers a wealth of cultural and historical attractions, and its importance in Romanian ferrous metallurgy further enriched our visit.
On the second day, we headed to Timisoara, with a short stop in Lugoj, where we were enchanted by the Tamish River.
In Timisoara, apart from the main tourist attractions, we visited the Main Railway Station, the largest and busiest in this part of Romania. Unfortunately, direct trains to Belgrade were suspended a few years ago, reminding us of the importance of preserving and developing rail connections between our countries. On the way back, we also visited the station in Moravita, located just 5 km from the Serbian border.
This tour brought us many wonderful memories and allowed us to connect with the rich history of the railway. We sincerely thank all organizers and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Pančevo for inviting the CIPTeam to attend this significant event. We are looking forward to future opportunities to explore and gain new experiences and knowledge!
