Following the continuous development of the railway sector in the Republic of Serbia, the Expert Conference on the development of railways in Southeast Europe will be held in Belgrade in June 2026, organized by UIC (International Union of Railways), SEESARI (South East Europe Strategic Alliance for Rail Innovation) and the Institute of Transportation CIP under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure (MCTI).
The event will bring together the UIC Regional Days and the SEESARI conference, with the aim to strengthen a strategic dialogue on the future of the railway system in the region and to encourage cooperation between states, infrastructure managers, operators, industry and research institutions.
Brief information on key stakeholders
The International Union of Railways (UIC) is a global organization that gathers 200 members from 100 countries around the world, i.e. railway companies, infrastructure operators and other stakeholders from the railway transport sector. It was founded in 1922 in Paris, with the aim to improve international cooperation and standardization in railway transport (https://uic.org).
SEESARI (South East Europe Strategic Alliance for Rail Innovation) is a strategic alliance of South East Europe for rail innovation that gathers around 70 institutions from 15 countries, mainly from South East Europe for the development and modernization of rail transport in the region (https://seesari.org/).
MCTI (Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia) is responsible for development and implementation of policies in the areas of construction, spatial planning and development of traffic and transport infrastructure. Through cooperation with domestic and international partners and financial institutions, the Ministry is implementing projects of modernization of traffic and transport systems and infrastructure and strengthens Serbia’s integration into European transport flows.
